If you bring me a problem early that impacts my business, I will thank you and try to fix it.


If you have thought about solutions and exhausted several options before bringing the problem to me, so that you are asking me focused questions and asking me for a perspective you could not have access to, I'll take notice of you.

If you demonstrate a continuous aptitude for bringing problems early, but with some focus on the help you are requesting, I will ask you when I have problems. You will gain a reputation as a troubleshooter and ultimately I will seek to promote you.

You do NOT want to have a reputation as someone who always delegates issues upwards without shaping and focusing the "ask" first.
