Actively shape your personal brand

We recently ran a careers day in the office. As part of the day, a group of recognised leaders within our organisation sat on stools on a stage; and a facilitator questioned them on how they managed their pathways to success.

Whilst all of them came from diverse backgrounds, it was clear that they all had one thing in common - they all (sometimes subconsciously) put significant effort into shaping their personal brand.

How did they do this? By looking at what they had to offer as a salesperson would, and tailoring their behaviour to their "customers".

By maintaining constant awareness that people make up their mind about them as they observe their actions.

By having a plan, and consistently checking in to understand how they were perceived.

And by building a trusted network of people (some more senior than them) who can help them to advance their career plan.
